CurrentBody Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 3 Review (Spoiler: It’s Worth the Hype)

The beauty tech brand CurrentBody upgraded their LED masks, big time.

The newest CurrentBody LED series 3 face mask.

CurrentBody sent me this mask to test, no strings attached. When I accepted their request, I offered writing a review on my experience. That being said, these are my honest thoughts on the S3 mask. If you buy through my links, I may earn commission at no extra cost to you.

Why the CurrentBody Series 3 mask?

I began my red-light therapy explorations approximately a year ago with another mask I reviewed. I’ve been a faithful user ever since and believe firmly in the benefits of red-light therapy. The CurrentBody S3 mask is an upgrade in more than just a ‘more lights!’ kind of way - it’s a thoughtful and big step into the future of home skincare.

CurrentBody's S3 mask launched in September 2026. It’s the first of their masks with six light colors and fully customizable capabilities.

It’s that final bit that really stands out to me.

When I was in high school, I had this fabulous dream of making a box that I could step inside that would scan my whole body - hair, skin, nails, figure - and then zap me with magical lightning that could remove my blemishes, grow my hair, slim my thighs, de-bloat my face, whatever I needed at that time. A sort of beautifying, Frankenstein-esque machine, if you will. The most amazing thing about my beauty invention is that it could be adjusted for any person, and so I would become a millionaire! A genius, very straightforward, sixteen year old girl’s idea, see?

Now, that machine has not been made (and would likely get out of control), however! I think luxury home beauty care is heading in that direction, in the sense that beauty devices are being made with more bespoke design; because no two faces are the same. In fact, I swear that my face changes at least ten times throughout the month. I love the idea of a single product having the power and customizability to deal with multiple problems at once. That is the CurrentBody Red Light Therapy S3 mask.

Who is CurrentBody?

The British beauty tech brand launched its Series One LED light therapy mask in 2018, the first to introduce a flexible LED therapy face mask to use at home. Since the brand’s founding in 2009, the company has been paving the way in beauty tech worldwide, and now is a reputable and well-established name. It’s also getting trendier by the day - Emily in Paris wore an earlier version of the CurrentBeauty LED mask in season 3.

What's new in the CurrentBody Series 3?

Because if there’s a third iteration, that means there was a second and first before this one. Why upgrade?

From what I’ve looked into, the S2 is still a popular and effective design, and unless you’re keen on these upgrades specifically, I can’t tell you to drop the extra cash for the S3. HOWEVER - if this is your first mask and you’re ready to dive in, then I can wholeheartedly recommend the S3 over the S2. I’ve tried out multiple LED masks before, and I can confidently say that until another one comes out that is miles ahead, I’ll likely be sticking with the S3 for a long time.

Besides the tech, it is the the comfort, user-friendliness, and overall sensible upgrades that make the S3 better overall.

Here are the reasons for what makes the S3 stand out.

The new mask has 6 lights instead of 3.

S2 had the original red plus infrared lights for anti-aging. S3 has added blue (to tackle breakouts), green (for dark spots), and yellow (to diminish inflammation.) A single mask can cover more skin concerns. *Important Note* Infrared is invisible to the human eye, so you won’t see it but it’s there.

The app and customizable functions.

The mask has four pre-set 10 minute sessions that are easy to do. I cycle through the four depending on what I need.

The four preset sessions by currentbody led face mask

And that’s all well and good - lots of LED masks have their targeted sessions. But CurrentBody S3 is the very first customizable LED mask. It’s very user-friendly and thoughtfully put together.

The mask uses something called MyDose™. You need to remember that LED works not because the lights are directed at your skin on FULL BLAST. Your skin can’t handle that. The MyDose™ technology adjusts the light strength according to your customizations, ensuring that the LED wavelengths are safe and optimized to target the concerns you’ve pointed out through the app.

You don’t need the app to use the four presets. The app is for making your own presets, customizing which LEDs you want for what part of your face. It’s extremely simple to use, and is such a great way to deal with multiple issues at once!

For example, I occasionally have breakouts on my left cheek specifically - I suspect it’s how I lean my chin on my hand when I’m working - and also have fine lines around my eyes. So instead of using one 10 minute session to target acne all over my face, I can select the blue light for my cheek and red + infrared for the rest of my face all in one go.

I prefer bespoke beauty because no two people have the exact same skin concerns.

The app can connect with IOS and android. You can make and save up to 8 presets, delete them, re-create them, find other people’s uniquely designed preset codes, download them and try them out yourself, etc. It opens up a lot of possibilities.

I made my own preset so you can see what I’m talking about.

I linked my app to the mask. This is the preset that I made (by coloring in the mask on my phone with the lights I wanted. See blue on my cheeks?)

Then it works just like any of the preset sessions. It’s so great because my own skin fluctuates dramatically throughout the month, and now I can target specific issues as they pop up.

Fit and Comfort

5/5 stars. I have never worn one of the hard shell masks outside of spas, and I personally wouldn’t want one at home. The flexible mask is superior when it comes to comfort. That being said, the CurrentBody S3 has apparently upgraded the strap around the head so that it fits more snugly compared to its predecessors. It straps on easily and firmly, without digging into my face, and I especially love the shaping around the chin!

I specifically mentioned in a review for a previous mask I tried that the mask hung off my chin. The CurrentBody is flexible, yes, but it’s also loosely shaped so you’re not just slapping on a flat silicone mask around your head. I love that. I also have a high forehead. The mask covers every bit.

Nice Things That Make The Using Experience Better

The pause button. It’s so simple yet so important. Each session is 10 minutes long. What if I need a snack in the middle of that? Or somebody came knocking at my door and I don’t want to scare them away (this time)? Rather than put my mask down with a sigh and resign myself to either missing out on some skincare time or start all over, I can just pause it. It’s the little things.

The timer. The remote that comes with the mask has a timer on it and shuts off automatically. I like not guessing how much I have left to do, because I am a multitasker and having the 10 minutes gives me a perfect slice of time to tidy up or do whatever.

The removable eye protectors. These little winged, black eye socket things are such a nice touch. They’re easily removable for cleaning, and protect my eyes from the lights. Sometimes you don’t want to have an LED halo at the perimeter of your eyesight, you know?

The clip on the remote. When I’m using my mask, I do not sit still. I’m washing dishes, putting laundry away, doing nightly stretches, etc. This clip is a game-changer because I can just hook it onto my pajama pants instead of having to wear pants with pockets, or carry it around in my hand. I am genuinely thrilled by this.

Now this is an additional tip not exactly related to the CurrentBody, but I also have the ZIIP Halo
and started using the devices on the same day, (LED mask first, followed by the micro-current device)
and have seen excellent results in overall skin tone plus lifting. In case you wanted to try, you can also get the ZIIP here and use my code HALFIEZIIP for 10% off.

Who is the CurrentBody S3 good for?

Your mom.

I’m half-joking. If she complains about this for a Christmas gift, then I don’t know if you’ll ever satisfy your mother’s demands. This mask is such an excellent splurge. It’s pretty, packaged beautifully, effective, efficient, cleans easily, travels well, established and thoroughly tested.

I recommend this mask for anyone who wants to

  • Begin using LED masks at home. This one is very straight-forward.

  • Upgrade their current mask. The additional tech is well-worth it.

  • Customize their own skin care.

  • Step up their skincare game in a big way.

  • Streamline their products.

I’m quite pleased and impressed with the CurrentBody S3 LED mask. You’ll find me on my socials regularly using it. You’re free to follow and scrutinize me to see how my beauty is coming along ;) If I do find a better mask one day, I’ll share that. Until then, it’s me and S3 til the end, baby.
