Magical Harry Potter Gift Ideas

(That Isn’t Cheap Movie Merch)

I unabashedly love the Harry Potter books. It’s just great writing and storytelling. The movies come second, but they are full of whimsical world-building that has become inseparable with the world I had dreamt up while I read as a child.

That being said, similar to how people seem to insist on giving Dumbledore socks, I have politely accepted all kinds of Harry Potter merch and paraphernalia throughout the years, despite the fact that I prefer a more subtle approach to my passion pieces. As I’ve grown up, my preferences have developed beyond HP themed t-shirts and junky Bertie Botts Every Flavoured Beans. I’ve written this for the true fan with a more refined taste.

Here is a list of gifts for your Potterhead friend and family member - I am sure you’ll find at least one thing that they have not seen yet.

JEWELRY

First of all, one can never have too much jewelry.

Second of all, I personally like these pieces because they are understated. Lots of HP costume stuff isn’t actually wearable on the day to day. The pieces by FANCIMI are pretty, delicate, and also designed in a way that only genuine fans would recognize what they are. Their Harry Potter jewelry is an official collaboration with Warner Bros.

Amongst the many pieces, here are my favorites.

Felix Felicis Ring

A silver ring with the vial of liquid luck. I like this one in the ring form vs necklace because of the design. I pop this on for a little secret luck.

This might sound wild, but my friend actually used this as her wedding ring. And why not? It’s pretty, represents something special to her, and is unique. She’s a theater girl and this ring suits her perfectly.

It glows in the dark - because it’s collecting light inside, obviously. This is one of the many charms FANCIME has. You can collect them and wear them on a bracelet or necklace.

This one actually turns! The two rings spin in different directions, just like the movie Time Turner. It’s very small but has good weight to it. I wear this one all the time.

Of all the pieces I’ve shared here, this one is probably the largest. There are multiple wand necklaces, so if you’re more of a Malfoy than, say, the cleverest witch of our year, you can find it here.

The Books

But have fun with it.

Depending on what part of the world you’re in, the book covers you grew up with will have looked different. Now, search a little bit and you can find different all kinds of illustrated versions.

Minalima Box Set

Personally, I have always cherished the Minalima designs. They’re unique and detailed, with lots of interesting quirks and bits that enchant the eye.

Just don’t forget to close it with a ‘I solemnly swear I’m up to no good."‘

The Atmosphere

On vinyl.

Without this music, broomsticks wouldn’t fly.

Something to play while you listen to the music.
