Shark SpeedStyle vs Dyson Supersonic Nural: Which Hair Dryer Is Actually Worth It?
The timing couldn’t have been better.
I, with long, fine and straight hair, was on the search for the hair dryer upgrade I have needed for years. I brought this up to my sister-in-law to ask if she had any hair dryer insights for me, and she informed me that she, too, was looking at hair dryers. My eyes were settling on the Shark Speedstyle while she was eying the Dyson Supersonic.
We ended up getting them both and then compared our purchases.
I realize that you want me to give you a straight answer - WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU BUY?
Important thing to remember: everybody’s hair is different. Your budget, your wants, the way you like to style yourself etc. is all as personal and unique as the hair on your head. So keep that in mind.
My conclusive thoughts are this:
If you don’t want to spend the money for a Dyson, the Shark Speedstyle will be just fine. UNLESS you are specifically looking for something that can handle thick, curly hair, in which case, the Dyson is going to be a quicker friend for you. BUT EVEN THEN, the price point may not be worth it. The Shark Speedstyle will get the job done AND as a fine-haired girl with a noticeable need for volume, I prefer it because of the brush attachment. BUT the Dyson is overall a superior hairdryer.
Did that help at all? Ah, the wonderful difficulties of shopping for person preferences! Read on.

DESIGN
Honestly, weight difference is negligible. I wouldn’t even put that into consideration.
Dyson has
wider airflow due to size of barrel
dries more quickly
Scalp sensor for automatic heat adjustment
Magnetic attachments
That name brand power
Pretty box
Shark has
a snap and lock in system for attachments
is not loud (this is coming from a previous user of a janky old hair dryer, so take with a grain of salt)
does not have the smart features
Button you can hold down to alternate cool and hot air while using
This is minor, but as a voice actor who is using cords and careful about storing them, the Shark cord is more flexible and bundles more easily without risk of damaging the internal wires.
Basically, Shark will give you professional results without the premium price or extra things that make the hair styling process a little easier or more fun.
Like I said at top, I have fine, straight hair that dries quickly, and basically all I want is something that will give me a blowout without damaging my hair. I don’t need all the attachments, just the brush and the de-frizzer. Shark ticks off all of those boxes.
My sister-in-law has lots of thick, curly hair, so all of the attachments are useful for her, plus the faster drying time and scalp sensor when using the dryer on her young daughter who has thick, wavy hair. It’s more versatile for her.
My final verdict
You absolutely get what you pay for in the case of Dyson.
It’s excellent and has lots of versatility for all hair types. It also costs a lot.
Shark is excellent, limited but gets the job done without damage. It also costs half as much.
If the budget wasn’t an issue, I’d like to say I’d probably get a Dyson, but I also know I wouldn’t use all the attachments or smart features, so maybe it would be a waste.
If you’re concerned about either actually working and giving you the hair you want, don’t worry - both can do it.
The decision will come down to price point, storage, if you want smart features, and how many attachments you need.
This was a straight to the point review. By all means, go and read up more! But I feel these are the most important things you need to know before making a purchase. When it comes down to how your hair turns out, both will require a learning curve.
